Derby City Council has for over ten years now held a large Car Boot Sale on the Cattle market site, which takes place every Sunday.
The site is split in such a manner as to be able to keep those selling from Car Boots away from the general parking. With the whole of the site being hard standing it is able to operate 51 weeks a year, the only exception being that it is not held on the Sunday between Christmas and the New Year.
The sales open at 7.30am when vehicles are let on to the site and usually finish around 1.00pm. On average around 320 cars per week are on site for sales, and professional traders or vans are not allowed, to try to keep to the spirit of a Car Boot Sale.
Customers number into the thousands every week and parking for the sale is currently fifty pence per car.
Council Staff are on site to regulate the Market and to try to ensure that the public is able to browse safely and to ensure that shoppers do not have to deal with unscrupulous traders.
Hot food stalls, and a public house are on site to ensure that visitors and car booters alike do not go hungry or thirsty.
